Bunnygrunt

Bunnygrunt is a St. Louis-based American indie-pop and twee group associated with cuddlecore. The band forms in early 1993 with guitarist Matt Harnish, drummer Karen Reed and bassist Renee Dullum, and all three share vocal duties.

Early releases and debut album

The group debuts later in 1993 with the Silly Moo label single “Criminal Boy”. It follows that release with a run of seven-inch singles and EPs, including Standing Hampton and The Bunnygrunt Family Notebook. Bunnygrunt then signs to No Life and records its first album, Action Pants!, which appears in 1995.

Before the album is completed, Dullum leaves the band. A rumour attached to the record says that she takes her songs with her, which is linked to the album’s short running time and small number of tracks.

Line-up changes and later records

With bassist Jen Wolfe in the line-up, Bunnygrunt returns in 1998 with Jen-Fi. The trio splits up soon after, while Harnish and Reed continue as the See-Thrus.

After the song “Season’s Freaklings” is used in the film Bad Santa, Bunnygrunt reforms and releases Karen Hater’s Club in 2005 on Happy Birthday To Me! Records.

The band later includes drummer Erik Von Damage and rotating guitarists Jason Hutto and Mario Viele of The Pubes. It plays smaller eastern US tours in spring and summer, with and without Karen, and becomes a regular feature of the Athens Popfest. In 2009, the group travels to Athens, Georgia to record with Jason NeSmith of Casper & the Cookies, resulting in Matt Harnish & Other Delights.
