Buick 6

Buick 6 is an English blues-rock trio made up of Roger Hubbard, Colin Gibson and Liam Genockey. The group forms in 1989, when Hubbard brings together Gibson on bass guitar and Genockey on percussion. It takes its name from a Bob Dylan song.

Background

Roger Hubbard starts his career in the 1960s and forms the Brighton Blues Club on England’s south coast in 1967. His first major interest is Delta-style blues, and in 1970 he records his first solo album, Brighton Belle Blues, which brings him wider recognition on the British blues scene and in the United States. In the mid-1970s he acquires a 1935 National Duolian steel-bodied guitar and forms Delta Wing with, among others, Jon Cleary.

Style and activity

Based around Hastings in South East England, Buick 6 plays a Delta blues-influenced sound. The group performs occasional gigs when the members’ other commitments allow.

Related note

A different act with the same name appears in 2007 as Lucinda Williams’ band and later releases a self-titled album in 2008. That group is separate from the English trio.
