Brother And Bones

Brother And Bones are a UK rock band active since 2009. They are associated with blues rock, rock, folk, Southern rock and acoustic music, and are based around a five-piece line-up that includes two drummers. The band is centred on a wider group of musicians, artists, photographers and filmmakers, mainly from the South West of England around St Ives, Cornwall.

Sound and live setup

The group is known for a live sound built around an acoustic guitar frontperson and a dense, forceful rhythm section. Their performances combine volume and impact with quieter passages, and the dual-drummer format gives them both power and contrast. They are described in various assessments as a distinctive and hard-hitting live act, with comparisons made to folk and rock artists as well as Southern rock and blues influences.

Releases

One of the band’s key early releases is Hold Me Like The Sun, with the B-side Show Me Love. This release is produced and mixed by Ian Grimble, whose credits include work with Manic Street Preachers, Travis and Everything But The Girl. It appears as the group’s first full release and is presented as a statement of their own sound.

Reception and airplay

The single receives support from XFM, BBC 6 Music, BBC Introducing, Q Radio, Kerrang Radio and NME TV. The band also accumulates a substantial volume of video views through word of mouth.

Live activity

After a strong first year, the band enters 2012 with a reputation as one of the more notable live acts in the UK. Their 2011 festival appearances include The Great Escape, The Eden Sessions, Hop Farm, Beach Break Live, Relentless Boardmasters and Lollapalooza. They also support Tribes and Paolo Nutini, and tour Europe with Ben Howard.
