BROODS

BROODS is an electronic and dream pop sibling duo from Auckland, New Zealand, formed by Georgia Nott and her elder brother Caleb Nott. Georgia is the vocalist, while Caleb is a multi-instrumentalist. The pair grow up around music and play together from childhood before forming the duo after their earlier band, the Peasants, breaks up.

Early career and formation

The Peasants win a competition for intermediate and high school musical acts in 2011. After that band ends, the Nott siblings form BROODS and begin working with producer Joel Little, who also acts as a judge in the contest. Little is already known for his production work with Lorde when BROODS begin releasing music.

Their debut single, “Bridges,” appears first in late 2013 and is later released commercially, reaching the Top Ten in New Zealand. A self-titled six-track EP follows, co-written by the Notts and Little and produced by Little. The EP is later issued in the United States and enters the Billboard 200.

Albums and collaborations

BROODS release their first album, Evergreen, in 2014. It tops the New Zealand chart and reaches number 45 in the United States. Their second album, Conscious, arrives in 2016 and also reaches number one in New Zealand. It includes “Heartlines,” written by Lorde, and a collaboration with Tove Lo.

The duo work again with Joel Little on the single “Free,” which leads into Conscious. They also collaborate with Flight Facilities on “Stranded” and with Whethan on “Be Like You.” In 2018 they release “Peach” and “Everything Goes (Wow),” both of which appear on their third album, Don’t Feed the Pop Monster, released in 2019.

Recognition and touring

BROODS receive strong recognition at the 2016 New Zealand Music Awards. They also tour internationally with Two Door Cinema Club and Tove Lo, and later tour in support of Don’t Feed the Pop Monster, beginning in London.
