Broken English

Broken English is a British rock group from the United Kingdom, active between 1987 and 1991. It is formed by singer and guitarist Steve Elson, who writes a song called “Comin’ on Strong” while performing in a Rolling Stones tribute band. A friend hears the song, thinks it is too strong to be treated as a one-off novelty recording, and encourages him to form a band and record more material.

The first single does reasonably well and reaches number 18 in the UK singles chart. The next two singles do not match that performance.

Steve Elson is the singer and guitarist. Alan Coates is a guitarist. Other musicians associated with the group include Jamie Moses on guitar, Paul Fenton on drums, Zak Starkey on drums and Geoff Cooper on drums.
