Brody Dalle

Brody Dalle is an Australian-born rock and punk singer, guitarist and songwriter associated with alternative rock, punk rock and rock. She is known for her work with Sourpuss, The Distillers, Spinnerette and T.F.F., and she also records as a solo artist under her own name. Her music is issued through World Dominatrix Music.

Background and early career

Born Bree Joanna Alice Robinson in 1979, Dalle begins her music career in Melbourne, Australia. She sings and plays guitar in Sourpuss from 1993 to 1996, then later fronts The Distillers, a band she forms after moving to Los Angeles, California.

Her original surname changes after her marriage to Tim Armstrong of Rancid, and she later uses Dalle as her professional name. After their divorce in 2003, she continues under that name.

The Distillers and Spinnerette

Dalle is the lead vocalist and guitarist of The Distillers, which is active from 1998 onward. She also performs with Spinnerette between 2007 and 2012. Across these projects, her work sits within punk and alternative rock, with a strong connection to the broader rock scene.

Solo work

In the 2010s, Dalle begins work on a solo album and signs to Caroline Records for its release. The album, Diploid Love, is produced by Alain Johannes and includes guest contributions from Shirley Manson of Garbage, Nick Valensi of The Strokes and Warpaint’s Emily Kokal. Michael Shuman of Queens of the Stone Age also appears among the collaborators connected to the project.

The album includes the single “Meet The Foetus / Oh The Joy”, which features backing vocals from Shirley Manson. Other song titles associated with the album include “I Don't Need Your Love”, “Dressed In Dreams” and “Carry On”.

Dalle is married to Josh Homme, who is a member of Queens of the Stone Age and other groups. Her solo work is linked with a network of alternative and rock musicians, including members of Garbage, The Strokes, Warpaint and Queens of the Stone Age.
