Bridie Jackson and the Arbour are a Newcastle upon Tyne, UK-based group led by Bridie Jackson, with a sound that draws on folk, gospel, flamenco and contemporary indie influences. The line-up is established in 2012 and includes Bridie Jackson on guitar, piano and lead vocals, Jenny Nendick on cello, bell plates, Carol Bowden on vocals, percussion and bell plates, and Rachel Cross on vocals, fiddle and bell plates.

Background

Bridie Jackson begins playing guitar at the age of five and comes from a musical family. While travelling in Europe with her father, she is introduced to a range of musical styles, including Portuguese fado, which informs her work.

Before forming the band, Jackson releases two EPs on Urban & Eastern Records between 2009 and 2010. She then focuses on developing her sound with a band, gradually adding more voices and instruments before forming the Arbour in 2012.

Albums and live activity

The band launches its debut album, Bitter Lullabies, with a sold-out show at The Sage Gateshead in January 2012. A second album, New Skin, follows in 2014 and is supported by a full UK tour.

Recognition

In 2013, Bridie Jackson and the Arbour win the Glastonbury Emerging Talent Competition, which secures them slots on two of the festival’s main stages.
