Breed77

Breed77 is a London-based metal band originally from Gibraltar, known for combining alternative metal with flamenco influences. The group forms as a quintet with Paul Isola on vocals and percussion, Danny Felice and Pedro Caparros on guitars, Stuart Cavilla on 5-string bass, and Andre Joyzi on drums.

History and releases

The band begins attracting attention through its live performances and in 1998 is voted Best Unsigned Band by Kerrang! readers. In 1999, it wins Metal Hammer and Kerrang! awards for Best New Band. In 2001, it signs a five-album deal with Albert Productions, the Australian company associated with AC/DC.

Breed77 releases the studio albums Breed77, Cultura, In My Blood (En mi Sangre), Insects and The Evil Inside, along with the compilation Un Encuentro, which includes Spanish versions of songs from the first three albums. The band’s catalogue also includes the 2004 track “A Matter Of Time”.

Line-up changes and later activity

In August 2013, Paul Isola leaves the band temporarily and is replaced by Rui Lopez for a short run of dates. Isola returns for a 10th anniversary Cultura tour in 2014. The band later headlines Breaking Bands Festival in Bromsgrove in 2015, with its longer-term status remaining unclear afterwards.

Members continue with other projects during this period: Paul Isola returns to Gibraltar and forms a multimedia production company; Danny Felice and Stuart Cavilla relaunch The Heretic Order; Pedro Caparros López works on L’Anima; and Andre Joyzi works in music-venue management, then as a drum tech and tour manager for artists including Dragonforce and Cradle Of Filth.

Reunion and recent recordings

Breed77 reappears in 2017 as headliners of the Gibraltar National Day Festival. That performance includes the return of original bassist Stuart Cavilla and former drummer Óscar Preciado Zamora, and is broadcast on Gibraltar TV and streamed online.

In 2021, the band releases a remotely recorded acoustic version of “A Matter Of Time” and indicates that new music and multimedia releases are in development. At that point, the publicly visible reunited line-up is Paul Isola, Danny Felice and Pedro Caparros López, with other members not publicly confirmed.
