Brackles is the performance name of Rob Kemp, a UK electronic music artist and DJ associated with dubstep, wonky, future garage and bass music. He becomes known through work as a regular warm-up DJ at the London dubstep night FWD and through regular appearances on Rinse FM, where he builds a reputation as a selector with wide-ranging taste.

Style and influences

Brackles’ approach sits well outside a heavy, sluggish strain of dubstep. He mixes funky, rolling grime, vintage 2-step and bassline into energetic, elastic DJ sets. The artists named as influences include Slimzee, Horsepower, J Dilla, El-B and MJ Cole.

Releases

Before his first release for Planet Mu, Brackles issues music on Berkane Sol, Pollen and Apple Pips. His debut for Planet Mu is the 12-inch LHC, which comes out in 2009.
