Boston Tea Party

Boston Tea Party is a Norwegian hard rock band that is described in one account as a psychedelic 1960s group. The band name is not connected to their place of origin, as they are from Norway, not Boston.

History and style

The group forms in 1963 and starts out as a surf act before moving toward psychedelic rock in the mid-1960s. Their line-up includes brothers Rob DePerna on keyboards and Richard DePerna on bass, along with singer Travis Fields, drummer David Novogroski and guitarist Mike Stevens.

Recordings

The band debuts with the 1967 single “Words” backed with “Spinach”. This first single appears on the small Big Boss label before being reissued by Challenge Records, the label associated with Gene Autry. Two follow-up singles also appear: “Is It Love?” backed with “Don’t Leave Me Alone”, and “Free Service” backed with “Rose In the Night”.

In 1968, the quintet releases its first album, The Boston Tea Party.
