Blue Roses is the former recording name of Laura Groves, a British folk singer and singer-songwriter from Shipley, United Kingdom. The project is associated with avant-folk and folk, and Groves later records under her own name.

Career

Groves begins using the Blue Roses name in November 2008. She explains that it marks a musical change in direction from her earlier work. Under this alias, she debuts with the self-titled album Blue Roses in 2009 on XL Recordings.

Performances and collaborations

Blue Roses performs live in a stripped-back format using guitar and piano. These performances include appearances with Final Fantasy, Jeremy Warmsley, Jeffrey Lewis and Tilly and the Wall.

Other recordings

Groves contributes the track “Bridges” to the charity compilation 50minutes in 2006, alongside artists including Daniel Johnston, Ladyfuzz and Emmy the Great.

Blue Roses is one of several acts using the name, but in this case it refers to Laura Groves rather than the Italian Eurobeat artist Melody Castellari.
