bleech
bleech is a London rock band that forms in 2009 and remains active. The group consists of sisters Jennifer O’Neill and Katherine O’Neill, together with former school friend Matt Bick.
History
The band gets early attention from former Food Records boss Andy Ross and plays at Camden Crawl in 2009. In its first years, bleech attracts media support for its singles, including placement on NME’s 10 Tracks You Have To Hear This Week, NME Radio’s A-list, BBC Radio 6 playlisting, and Gill Mills’ Best of Myspace list. “The Worthing Song” also appears on the NME Radio A-list and is Single of the Month in Clash. “Mondays” appears on a Clash compilation of monthly tracks.
By the end of 2009, the band supports Wolfmother, The Charlatans, Pete Doherty, The Kooks and The Rifles. In 2011, bleech becomes the face of Kangol’s Autumn/Winter campaign, works with photographer Janette Beckman on a shoot, performs at an Aerial7 launch party in New York, signs a worldwide publishing deal with Bucks Music Group, and releases the EP Deadhead.
Releases
bleech’s debut album, Nude, comes out in 2012. After its release, the band is announced as one of the support acts for #ASH20, the 20th birthday event for Ash hosted by Josie Long. Kerrang! features an article on the band shortly afterwards. In the same period, bleech plays the Y Not Festival and releases the EP The Hippie & Me. The video for “Break My Nose” features British super-middleweight boxer Frank Buglioni and is nominated for Best Music Video at the Limelight Film Awards in 2013. The album Nude is listed at number 15 on the Fédération des Radios Associatives Rock Feraliste for April 2013. The band’s second album, Humble Sky, is also part of its discography.
Style and line-up
The band is described as rock, with references in reviews to Pixies, Elastica, The Breeders and 1990s indie dynamics. Its line-up is Jennifer O’Neill on lead vocals and lead guitar, Katherine O’Neill on bass and backing vocals, and Matt Bick on drums and backing vocals.
