Blawan

Blawan is the recording name of Jamie Roberts, a British-born DJ and electronic dance producer based in Berlin. He grows up in Barnsley, UK, and begins his musical path as a drummer, a background that shapes the rhythmic focus of his productions.

Early releases and labels

He starts releasing EPs in 2010 and appears on a range of labels, including R&S Records, Hessle Audio, Clone’s Basement Series, Hinge Finger and Black Sun. Under his other solo names, he also releases on The Trilogy Tapes and Avian. His work spans techno, dubstep, electronic, future garage and UK garage, as well as darker minimal and two-step-influenced material.

Key tracks and album

His track “Getting Me Down” is named Resident Advisor’s best single of 2011. After releasing 15 EPs, he issues his debut album, Wet Will Always Dry, in 2018. His output as Blawan includes analogue-driven studio production and live sets, alongside more traditional dancefloor DJ work.

Other names and collaborations

Roberts also records as Kilner and Bored Young Adults. He collaborates with Pariah as Karenn and with Surgeon as Trade, using these projects to extend his experimental work.

TERNESC

He establishes his own label, TERNESC, in 2015, and it becomes the home for his last five releases as Blawan. In the same year, he moves to Berlin.
