Blackthorn

Blackthorn is a Russian metal band from Moscow, active since 2004. Its music combines gothic metal, symphonic metal and symphonic black metal, with elements of black metal, dark romantic atmosphere, melodic passages and heavier vocal styles including growling and screaming.

Line-up

The group is described as female-led and female-complete. The line-up includes Aina on vocals, Elvira Alchemida on vocals, guitars and keyboards, Elena “Less” Lesnykh on violin, Tatyana “Greta” Grevizirskaya on bass, and Acotath on drums. Elena Lesnykh is also listed among the members as Елена Лесных.

Style

Blackthorn’s sound is characterised by a mix of black, symphonic and gothic metal. The group’s arrangements use haunting melodies alongside ethereal academic vocals and harsh growled or screamed vocals.
