Black Pyramid

Black Pyramid are a stoner/doom metal band from Northampton, Massachusetts, formed in 2007 and active since then. The group’s line-up includes Andy Beresky, Dave Gein, Clay Neely and Darryl Shepard. Their sound combines the low-tuned heaviness of stoner metal with doom metal, heavy psych, psychedelic rock and rock, alongside elements of old-school metal and progressive rock.

Style and themes

The band’s music draws on the weight and pacing of bands such as Sleep, Electric Wizard and High On Fire, while also reflecting the larger arrangements associated with Black Sabbath, Pentagram and The Obsessed. Their lyrics focus on war, the occult and alienation.

Early releases

Black Pyramid form in 2007 with Andy Beresky on guitar and vocals, Eric Beaudry on bass and Clay Neely on drums. They first attract attention in the stoner and doom scene with a demo in 2007 and an EP in 2008. After Beaudry leaves and Gein joins, they release their self-titled debut album in 2009 on Electric Earth and MeteorCity.

Subsequent albums and line-up changes

The band tour extensively after the first album and release a number of singles and splits. Their second full-length, II, appears on MeteorCity in 2011. After that release, Beresky leaves the band. Neely and Gein continue Black Pyramid with Darryl Shepard on guitar and vocals, and this line-up releases Adversarial on Hydro-Phonic Records in 2013.

Later activity

Following a European tour in 2013, the band goes on a brief hiatus before returning in late 2015 with the earlier line-up of Beresky, Beaudry and Neely.
