Black Lodge

Black Lodge is a UK electro project name that has also been used by more than one act. One version is the alias of Dan Dwayre, whose work moves from sample-based releases towards ambient gong music. He makes his Mo’ Wax debut through a compilation in the Japanese magazine Relax and later releases the Horse With No Name 12-inch on the label. A planned album does not appear because the label closes. In 2010, Black Lodge releases a debut album on Will Bankhead’s Trilogy Tapes label, with the sound shifting away from samples and placing more emphasis on gongs. In 2018, MWR157 appears and includes several unreleased Mo’ Wax tracks, and further archival material is later uploaded to Bandcamp. Black Lodge and Jack Lever release Enso in 2022. Dan Dwayre dies shortly after.

Other use of the name

The name is also used by a death doom metal band from Stavanger, Norway, originally called SekstiSoneSatan. That group forms in 1993 and splits after issuing its only album in 1995. Its music is described as cold, bleak and dissonant doom metal with female singing and deep growls, alongside experimentation and unconventional song structures. It releases Covet on Head Not Found/Voices of Wonder and is compared in some respects to old Unholy.
