Black Dice
Black Dice are a US experimental music group that forms in Providence, Rhode Island in 1997 and is based in Brooklyn, with origins also tied to New York City after the band relocates there. The group’s line-up changes over time: it starts with Bjorn Copeland on guitar, Hisham Bharoocha on drums, Sebastian Blanck on bass and Eric Copeland on vocals. Brian Chippendale of Lightning Bolt briefly drums for the band, then Aaron Warren replaces Blanck, while Bharoocha later leaves and works as a solo musician under the name Soft Circle.
The group’s sound changes significantly after its early years, moving from a noisy, thrashy style toward a more electronic and trippy approach. Its work sits across experimental, electronic, avant-garde, noise, experimental electronic and neo-psychedelic territory. Black Dice release Broken Ear Record on DFA, the label run by James Murphy and Tim Goldsworthy, and later issue a 12-inch on Paw Tracks in May 2007 and Load Blown on the same label later that year.
The band remains active from 1997 to the present and continues as a major name in experimental and noise-based music.
