Billy Liar is a Scottish acoustic folk-punk singer/songwriter from Edinburgh. He is based in Glasgow and writes stripped-back punk songs built around acoustic guitar.

Style and themes

His music sits in punk rock and folk punk, with an acoustic approach that gives the songs a direct, narrative character. The writing focuses on everyday emotions and situations, including sensitivity, love, desperation and frustration, presented in an unadorned style.

Recordings

His debut EP appears in 2007, and the song “Come Back To Edinburgh” receives substantial radio play and becomes a particular favourite with listeners and media. A second EP, It Starts Here, follows in 2009. Acey Slade produces the release, with Robin Guy on drums and Nick Mailing on bass; Mailing also serves as studio engineer for the sessions. The EP is recorded in a studio on the outskirts of London.
