Benedict is a name used for more than one act in the available information: one is a local rock band from Semarang, Indonesia, and another is a musician from Bishop's Stortford, Hertfordshire, who works in indie, rock and dance contexts. The latter is born and bred in Bishop's Stortford and comes from a family of four musical siblings.

Early life and training

As a child, Benedict starts with the trumpet at the age of 7, moves to piano at 8, and sings in a local choir from the age of 9. He moves to London at 18 to develop his career in the city. He begins working with Twenty First Artists at 15, learning songwriting and collaborating with more experienced writers and producers.

Collaborations and releases

His collaborators include Juan Luis Ayala, Oyvind Aamli and Chris Lawson Jones. In April 2012 he releases his first four-track EP, Glory Days, on Big Label Records. The record features only piano, vocals and a string quartet. After that he records a follow-up EP, Another Way, over a week in a church, with mixing by Dan Weeks and mastering at Abbey Road Recording Studios before release later in the year.

Performances and recognition

Following Glory Days, Benedict supports Mystery Jets and Karima Francis, works with SBTV, and performs at the Royal Albert Hall, Shepherd's Bush Empire and the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Pageant at Windsor Castle. He also appears on Channel 4, ITV and BBC Introducing Radio. In January 2012, MTV Brand New for 2012 names him as a name to watch.

Later activity

After Another Way, Benedict begins work on a third EP in the series.
