Benedek
Benedek, also known as Nicholas Benedek, is a Los Angeles musician and producer whose work centres on modern funk with futuristic and classic elements. He grows up in Los Angeles and develops an early interest in music through electric guitar, which he begins playing at nine years old. He studies funk and jazz fusion under a pupil of George Benson and Phil Upchurch, which shapes his musical direction.
He later moves into beat-making and electronic production, first experimenting with Nintendo Game Boy Camera software and its hidden three-track sequencer, which allows him to build the 8-bit sounds he values. He continues into software-based production with Reason before buying a Roland HS-60, his first hardware synthesiser, which leads to a lasting interest in analogue sound.
Benedek draws on science fiction, 1990s video games and vinyl records in his music. He also plays guitar, bass and keyboards, and combines those skills with synthesis and production to make funk-oriented music that also incorporates soulful and progressive elements.
