Ben Klock

Ben Klock is a Berlin-born German techno producer and DJ, born in 1972. He is also a label owner and is associated with the labels Klockworks and Ostgut Ton. His work is centred on minimal techno and techno.

Career

Klock becomes a resident at Berghain when the club opens in 2004, and the venue shapes both his DJ sets and his approach to production. He is known for techno sets built around hypnotic, deep and heavy grooves, and for monthly marathon sets at Berghain.

Releases and remixes

He releases records on Ostgut Ton and founds Klockworks in 2006. His debut album, One, appears on Ostgut Ton, and his Berghain mix also becomes closely associated with his name. He remixes artists including Kerri Chandler, Martyn and Depeche Mode.

Style and reputation

Klock’s music is described through consistency, tension and dynamics, with an emphasis on industrial austerity, natural musicality and physical impact. His approach also includes melodic elements and hook lines, and his work is linked to a wider renewal of techno.
