Bare Bones Boogie Band

Bare Bones Boogie Band are a UK blues-rock group based in London, with members drawn from Glasgow, St Andrews, Birmingham and Manchester. Their sound is stripped down and rooted in the British blues boom of the 1960s and 1970s, with references in their style and attitude to bands such as Free, Fleetwood Mac and the Rolling Stones, and to blues figures including B.B. King and Robert Johnson. Their live performances emphasise rawness and tenderness, with a heavy, soulful blues approach.

Background

The group forms in October 2008 and brings together musicians with experience from previous releases on Locomoto, Bad Moon and Mad Dash Records. By the end of their first year together, they play several hundred live shows, including venues and events such as the 100 Club and the Great British R&B Festival, and they also appear at the O2 Dome in London. Their first gig takes place within three weeks of forming.

Releases and activity

The band’s first album is a self-titled release in 2010. It receives international reviews and radio play, including airplay on the BBC and in other countries. The group also tours the UK.

The line-up includes Helen, Iain, Trev and Andy. Helen’s influences include Janis Joplin, Mavis Staples, Maggie Bell, Paul Rogers and Robert Plant. Iain cites Paul Kossoff, Peter Green, B.B. King, Jimi Hendrix, Angus Young, and Marc Ford and Rich Robinson of the Black Crowes. Trev names Tal Wilkenfeld from Jeff Beck’s band as a current source of inspiration. Andy’s influences include Art Blakey, Louis Bellson, Philly Joe Jones, John Bonham and Pierre Moerlen.
