Barbe-Q-Barbies are a rock band from Helsinki, Finland, formed in 2002 and active since then. The group is based in the Helsinki rock scene and works in hard rock, alternative rock and rock’n’roll, with a female-led line-up and a sound centred on riffs, hooks and direct, high-energy songwriting.

Line-up

The band’s members are Kaisa Karjalainen, Laura Prits, Niina Klemetti and Minttu Muranen. Earlier line-up details identify Niki on vocals, Kaisa on lead guitar and backing vocals, Heidi Meri on rhythm guitar, Ekkis Laine on bass guitar, Minttu Muranen on bass guitar, and Niina Klemetti on drums and backing vocals.

Releases and style

Barbe-Q-Barbies spend years touring rock clubs and developing their material before releasing singles and albums. Their debut album, All Over You, includes a set of catchy rock songs written by the band and a version of Sweet’s “Wig-Wam Bam” played in their own style. A later album, BORROWED TIME, draws on the sound of AC/DC, Queens of the Stone Age, Kiss and Motörhead, while also adding a Helsinki edge and vocals described as femme fatale in character. The group is presented as having created a distinct style while also refreshing the genre.
