Bag Raiders

Bag Raiders are an Australian electronic group from Sydney. The act consists of Jack Glass and Christopher Stracey and has been active since 2006. It works across dance, electro, electronic, electronica and funk.

Formation and background

Glass and Stracey meet at Cranbrook School, where they play in the orchestra practice room. Glass is a year ahead and plays piano and cello, while Stracey plays violin, guitar and clarinet. Both are classically trained musicians. They reconnect in 2005 and begin mixing hip-hop and 1970s rock CDs, which leads to the formation of Bag Raiders.

Releases and style

The group takes influence from Earth, Wind & Fire, The Brothers Johnson, 808 State and Orbital. In 2007, it issues its second EP, Fun Punch, on Bang Gang 12 Inches and Modular Records. Bag Raiders release their debut studio album in 2010 and later put out a house EP titled Nairobi in 2014.

Recognition and work as DJs

Bag Raiders also DJ, produce, write and remix for other artists. Their track “Shooting Stars” reaches No. 18 in Triple J’s Hottest 100 of 2009, and “Way Back Home” places at No. 46 in the following year’s poll. In 2009, the duo is ranked No. 11 in inthemix’s poll of Australia’s top 50 DJs.
