Babajack
Babajack is an acoustic blues and roots group from Malvern in the UK, with a sound that draws on blues, folk and acoustic music. The line-up centres on Becky Tate, whose roots percussion and vocals are a key part of the band’s sound, Trevor Steger, who plays slide-style guitar and rack harp, and Marc Miletitch on double bass. The group is active on the roots, acoustic and blues festival circuit in the UK and also performs in Europe.
Their music is described as blues-inflected rather than limited by the genre, with an emphasis on groove and atmosphere. Reviews and festival descriptions associate the band with blues-rock, acoustic blues and roots music. The band receives recognition at the British Blues Awards in 2012, where it is runner-up for Best Acoustic Act, and Becky Tate wins Instrumentalist of the Year.
Babajack is also noted for its use of acoustic instrumentation and for combining guitar, harmonica, percussion, vocals and double bass into a stripped-back but forceful sound. The group is presented as one of the more sought-after acts on the UK roots and blues circuit.
