AWOLNATION

AWOLNATION is an American alternative rock and pop rock group from Los Angeles, United States. It is active from 2009 and is centred on Aaron Bruno, who has also been involved with Under the Influence of Giants and Home Town Hero.

Formation and name

The name comes from Bruno’s high school nickname, “Awol”, which he receives after leaving school without saying goodbye to his friends. He forms the band using that moniker as the basis for the group name.

Line-up and label

The group includes Drew Stewart, Kenny Carkeet, Aaron Bruno, Christopher Thorn, David Amezcua, Ziminy, Isaac Carpenter and Zach Irons. It is signed to Red Bull Records.

Releases and early success

AWOLNATION releases its first EP, Back from Earth, in 2010. Its debut album, Megalithic Symphony, follows in 2011. The album contains 15 tracks, with bonus tracks appearing on some digital editions: “Swinging from the Castles” on iTunes and “Shoestrings” on Amazon.

The single “Sail” debuts at number 30 on the U.S. Billboard Alternative Songs chart in February 2011.

The band has performed with Weezer and MGMT.
