AU

AU is a Portland-based art-folk band led by multi-instrumentalist Luke Wyland. Active since 2005, the group is associated with experimental, avant-garde, ambient, freak folk and indie music. The band name is pronounced “Ay-you”.

The live line-up includes Dana Valatka on drums and Holland Hunter Andrews, also known for work with Like A Villain, on vocals and clarinet. In Portland, the group also works with Reed Wallsmith of Blue Cranes on saxophone, Nick Sweet on trombone and Anthony Meade on trombone.

AU’s 2012 album Both Lights is a key release in its catalogue. The band also works with a wide circle of collaborators, including Colin Stetson, Becky Dawson of Ah Holly Fam’ly and Saw Whet, Jeremy Faulkner of Ah Holly Fam’ly, Mark Kaylor of Hammer of Hathor and CexFucx, Jonathan Sielaff of Golden Retriever, and Sarah Winchester of A Weather.
