Atterkop

Atterkop is a Bristol punk group active from 2012 to 2022. It forms after the breakup of Private Gain in the summer of 2012, when the remaining members want to focus on bass-heavy ska punk. They bring in the Upsettah on guitar and begin rehearsing in Bristol.

Style and early development

The group’s material combines political dub-influenced punk, heavy riffing and fast ska passages. Its sound is described in terms of ska punk, skacore, anarcho punk and punk rock, with a strong political edge and beatdown sections.

Releases and activity

After several months of writing, Atterkop play a set made up of this material and go on to complete a number of mini-tours and one-off shows around the UK. In October 2013, the group records its debut EP at Madeof Ale Studios in Manchester. The six-track release appears on Riot Ska Records, Pumpkin Records, Rodent Popsicle in the United States, Sniperhill Records in Sweden and Unknown Records in Canada. It also appears on cassette through Uga Uga Tapes in Germany and Prejudice Me Records.
