Artisan

Artisan is a UK vocal trio made up of Brian Bedford, Jacey Bedford and Hilary Spencer. The group forms one of several acts using the name Artisan, and this version is the acappella trio associated with the recording described here. It is active from 1984 to 2005, and it disbands in 2005 before later reuniting for a tour in 2010.

Style and formation

The trio forms in a small village in mid-Devon and later bases itself in London. Its music centres on rich vocal harmony, with intricate plucked guitar parts, double bass and spliced drums. It is described as drawing comparison with Simon & Garfunkel, Radiohead and The Coral.

Members

Brian Bedford, Jacey Bedford and Hilary Spencer are the members of the group. After the original run, Hilary Spencer continues with solo work and also performs with Grant Baynham in the duo Quicksilver and with the Mrs Ackroyd band.

Later activity

In addition to the 2010 reunion tour, the trio receives airplay on Radio 1 and XFM. A new EP is also mentioned as being in preparation.
