Argy

Argy is the recording name of Argyris Theofilis, an electronic music producer from Rhodes, Greece, who is based in Berlin. He works in minimal, techno, electronic, minimal techno and tech house, and builds sets and productions that draw on a wide range of club influences.

Career

He comes to wider attention with the 2005 track “Love Dose”, which is remixed and supported by Luciano. He then works with labels including Cocoon, Objektivity, Ibadan and Defected, showing an output that moves across different strands of house and techno.

His first full-length release, Focus on: Argy, appears on Poker Flat in 2008 and includes collaborations with Jerome Sydenham and DJ Gregory. He later releases the DJ mix compilations Cavo Paradiso 09: The Master Sessions and D.Edge Sao Paolo on his own label, These Days.

These Days

Argy’s imprint These Days begins in 2009 and releases music by Argy, DJ Duke, The Martinez Brothers, Stephen Brown, Radio Slave, Beat Pharmacy, Jerome Sydenham and others. He is involved in the label beyond production, also handling A&R and artwork, and treats it as a platform for music that aims to be current while remaining timeless.

Style and collaborations

He develops an interest in club culture as a teenager through U.S. house music, and later develops a mixing style in key that lets him combine material from classic techno to deep disco. His collaborations and club events with The Martinez Brothers connect different audiences and scenes. Outside music, he is interested in architecture, current affairs and visual art, and he also listens to bossa nova, jazz, Krautrock and African trance.
