antropoloops

antropoloops is a music project built around creating loop-based compositions from fragments of existing songs. The work focuses on musical diversity across cultures and historical periods, and on the idea of shared knowledge and the common public domain enabled by the web.

Each track is assembled from a song fragment with other fragments added under a small set of rules. The original key is kept unchanged, timing is adjusted only slightly so that the character of the source material remains largely intact, and the arrangements use eight tracks with no more than eight loops at once.

The project is put together using Ableton Live 9 Standard and an Akai APC20 controller.
