Anthony Wilson

Anthony Wilson is a British jazz guitarist, composer and arranger. He is also identified as a UK techno DJ and producer under the name Ant, and as a member of Nu Fast Agents and Urban Funk Campaign.

Jazz career

Wilson records as a solo artist and has six solo albums to his name since 1997. His 2006 album Power of Nine is released on Groove Note and is included in a roundup of the year’s top jazz recordings in The New Yorker. He is described as a sensitive accompanist and a strong soloist, and he works across performance, composition and arranging.

Work with other artists

He becomes a long-term member of Diana Krall’s band in 2001, first appearing with her in a series of performances at Paris’ Olympia Theater that are collected on the Grammy-winning Live In Paris CD/DVD on Verve. He also appears in recordings and live settings with Madeleine Peyroux, Al Jarreau and Aaron Neville.

Other musicians associated with him include Bennie Wallace, Larry Goldings, Joe Henry, Harold Land, Chris Botti and the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra. He also works with his father, Gerald Wilson, the composer, arranger and bandleader.

Composition, awards and recognition

Wilson wins the Thelonious Monk Institute International Composers’ Competition in 1995 and receives commissions for both small- and large-scale original works. From 2000 onwards, he places highly in DownBeat magazine’s International Critics’ Poll in the guitarist, composer and arranger categories.
