Andhim
Andhim is a German house duo made up of Tobias Müller and Simon². The act forms in Cologne in 2010 and remains active from 2010 onwards. Their sound is described as “Super House” and draws on house, minimal, tech house and electronic music, with a strong sampling approach and roots in hip-hop.
Background and formation
The two members come together after developing different musical backgrounds. Simon² begins as a teenager scratching with jazz musicians across Europe, and later becomes known under the name Simon² as he turns toward electronic music. Tobias Müller develops in the late 1990s and early 2000s through turntablism, and as part of the turntable crew Noisy-Stylus he becomes a multiple ITF and DMC champion. Noisy-Stylus also appears on their Battlebreakrecords imprint and the album Table Manners.
The duo forms after meeting at a Bavarian sausage-eating contest, where they decide to start Andhim. Cologne and Germany remain central to their identity.
Style and releases
Andhim’s productions focus on a reduced, organic sound with attention to detail. Their tracks are built largely from samples, and this gives them a distinctive character. Their records circulate among major DJs, and they receive remix requests from across the scene.
They release music on labels including Monaberry, Terminal M and Sunset Handjob.
Live work and recognition
Andhim build a reputation through live performances as well as studio work, presenting DJ sets with a performance style that treats the decks as instruments. After extensive gigs across Europe and Asia, they continue to develop their sound and live approach.
Within a year of forming, they appear in the top ten German newcomers lists of Groove and Raveline magazines, both important electronic music publications in Germany.
