Anastacia is an American singer-songwriter from Chicago, Illinois. Born in 1968, she is associated with contemporary R&B, dance-pop, pop, pop rock, pop soul and R&B.

Career

She first gains wide attention with her debut album Not That Kind in 2000, followed by Freak of Nature in 2001. These early releases produce several charting singles, including “I’m Outta Love,” “Not That Kind,” “Paid My Dues” and “One Day in Your Life.” Her third studio album, Anastacia, appears in 2004 and continues her commercial success.

In 2006, she records “I Belong to You (Il Ritmo della Passione)” with Eros Ramazzotti, which becomes a hit across Europe. After changing record labels, she releases Heavy Rotation in 2008, then the cover album It’s a Man’s World in 2012. Later albums include Resurrection in 2014, Evolution in 2017, which features “Caught in the Middle,” and Our Songs in 2023, an album of German songs translated into English.

Background

Before focusing on singing, Anastacia pursues other careers. She also speaks publicly about health issues, including Crohn’s disease and two battles with breast cancer.

Recognition

In 2013, she receives the Humanitarian Award at the GQ Men of the Year Awards for work raising awareness of breast cancer, becoming the second woman to receive the award.
