Amy Studt

Amy Studt is a United Kingdom-based singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who works in classic pop and rock. She is also associated with the project Mercy Made Me and records on 19 Recordings, Inc.

Career

Studt begins making music at a very early age. She is signed to Simon Fuller’s company at the age of fourteen, then moves to Polydor soon after. Her first single, Just a Little Girl, is released when she is sixteen and reaches number 14 in the UK pop chart; it also reaches number 1 on US radio play. Her second single, Misfit, reaches number 6.

These singles are followed by her album False Smiles, which sells 260,000 copies. After a period out of the public eye, she returns in 2008 with My Paper Made Men. She later continues to work from her own studio while maintaining a low profile because of stage fright.

Recent work and performance

Studt records I Was Jesus In Your Veins with Hatcham Social’s Toby Kidd at Sleepwalker Studios. The track is presented as the first taste of a new album. She also performs a rare London show at the Young and Lost Club at The Nest in Dalston, where she unveils songs from the album with a full band line-up.

Style

Her music is described as drawing on the drama of Bowie-era Aladdin Sane, the vocal approach of the Shangri-Las and the moodiness associated with Mazzy Star.
