Amsterdam
Amsterdam is a Dutch group active from 1969 to 1974. The band begins as Penny Wise, which changes its name to Amsterdam in 1969 and is based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
Line-up
The group includes Donald van Os on guitar and vocals, Jacques Zwart on bass, and Martin van Os on drums from the Penny Wise line-up, with Peter van Asten added on vocals and Michel van Dijk on guitar. Other members associated with the band are Egon Verhoeven, Robert Verwey and Johan Slager.
Releases
Amsterdam releases two successful singles in 1970, Indian Pipe and Lucy Lucy. Six further singles follow, but with less success. The band’s self-titled debut album appears in 1975, after the group has already split up.
Style and context
The band is described as a Dutch rock group from the early 1970s. It is also associated with psychedelic rock, and it is one of several acts to use the name Amsterdam.
