Alun Gaffey is a Welsh singer-songwriter who was previously part of the Cardiff-based psychedelic pop collective Race Horses. His solo music is described as combining shuffling beats, electronic samples, acoustic guitar and layered vocal harmonies. The material he has shown includes only a few demos, but it points to a sound that draws on both electronic and acoustic elements.
Race Horses are noted for their reputation as one of Wales’ finest live pop acts, and Gaffey’s own work is framed as carrying some of that same melodic sensibility. His style is also characterised in relation to Welsh-language singing and indie rock, alongside a deliberately lo-fi keyboard-like rhythm section.
