Alter Bridge
Alter Bridge is an American rock band from Orlando, United States, active since 2004. The group forms around vocalist and rhythm guitarist Myles Kennedy, lead guitarist Mark Tremonti, bassist Brian Marshall and drummer Scott Phillips. Its sound spans alternative metal, alternative rock, hard rock, post-grunge and rock.
Formation and background
The band starts after Creed becomes inactive in 2003. Tremonti and Phillips form a new group with former bandmate Marshall and Kennedy, and Alter Bridge is introduced in January 2004. The members continue to work across other bands and side projects throughout the band’s career.
Recordings and albums
Alter Bridge signs with Wind-up Records and releases its debut album, One Day Remains, in 2004. Much of the material on the album is written by Tremonti the previous year. The record reaches No. 5 on the US Billboard 200 and is certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America.
The band follows with Blackbird in 2007, a release that begins a long working relationship with producer Michael Baskette. It reaches No. 13 in the US and is certified silver by the British Phonographic Industry.
AB III arrives in 2010 on Roadrunner Records. It receives critical acclaim and commercial success, and its lead single, “Isolation”, reaches No. 1 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart. Fortress follows in 2013 and is also well received.
The band then releases The Last Hero on Napalm Records in 2016. It becomes the first Alter Bridge album since the debut to enter the top ten of the Billboard 200 and the first to reach the top five of the UK Albums Chart. Walk the Sky follows in 2019, with Walk the Sky 2.0 arriving in 2020. The seventh studio album, Pawns & Kings, is released in 2022.
Commercial performance
By 2023, Alter Bridge has sold more than 5 million records worldwide.
