Alison Krauss & Union Station is an American group from Decatur, United States, active from 1987 to the present. It works in americana, bluegrass, contemporary country, country, country rock and folk, and is known as the band associated with singer and violinist Alison Krauss.
Line-up and membership
The group’s membership changes over time. The current line-up includes Alison Krauss, Barry Bales, Ron Block, Jerry Douglas, Dan Tyminski, Alison Brown and Adam Steffey. Barry Bales plays stand-up bass, Ron Block plays banjo and guitar, Jerry Douglas plays Dobro, and Dan Tyminski plays guitar and sings. Former members include Adam Steffey and Tim Stafford.
Recording and label context
Krauss alternates between solo recordings and recordings with Union Station as part of her contract with Rounder Records. The group is described as a traditionalist and americana band, placing it within the bluegrass and roots-country tradition.
