Alison Balsom

Alison Balsom is an English classical trumpet soloist from Royston, United Kingdom. Born in 1978, she studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the Paris Conservatory, and she also works with Håkan Hardenberger. She is a BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist.

Her recording career begins with a debut album on EMI Classics in 2002. In 2005, she releases Bach Works for Trumpet as part of a new exclusive contract with EMI Classics. Her third album, Caprice, follows as the second disc in that EMI contract and is named Solo CD of the Year 2006 by Brass Band World magazine.

Balsom wins the Young British Classical Performer title at the 2006 Classical Brit Awards and also receives the Classic FM Listeners' Choice Award at the Classic FM Gramophone Awards. Outside music, she has an interest in yachting, and her main trumpet is a Malone-converted Bach C Trumpet.
