Alice Howe

Alice Howe is a Boston-based folk and Americana singer-songwriter. She starts writing and performing at the age of 12 and develops her work as a guitarist and lyricist through a long focus on folk music. Her songs draw on people, places and experiences from her own life, and her lyrics are described as personal expressions of love and memory.

Background and influences

As a child, Howe absorbs traditional folk songs performed by Joan Baez and other singers. She later draws influence from Jackson Browne, Bob Dylan, Tracy Chapman and Joni Mitchell. Although she mainly performs original material, she also plays covers by these artists.

Recordings and performances

Her first studio album, a self-titled release of six original songs, appears in 2009. She performs at venues and events in the Greater Boston area, the Pioneer Valley, Stowe Farmers’ Market in Vermont, Yellow Sofa Coffee Shop in Northampton, Massachusetts, and the Red Curtain Music Series in Portland, Maine. She also plays regularly at open mics and appears several times at Smith College, including as an opener for Heather Maloney.

International activity

Howe spends time in Córdoba, Spain, where she performs at local bars including Automático and el Mundano. Her song “Change” is used in a promotional video for a spring campaign by Barcelona-based shoe designer Natalio Martín.
