Alexis Jordan is an American singer-songwriter and actress from Columbia, United States, known for pop, dance and R&B material. Her father is of Puerto Rican heritage, while her mother has African American, Native American and European ancestry. She moves to Santa Clarita, California at the age of 11, and begins writing songs alongside her singing.

Career

Jordan first gains wider attention in 2006 as a contestant on the first season of America's Got Talent. After leaving the show, she uploads cover versions to YouTube, where they draw millions of views. That online exposure leads to the attention of production duo Stargate and rapper Jay-Z, who sign her to StarRoc/Roc Nation.

Debut single

Her debut single, Happiness, is written by Deadmau5, Autumn Rowe, Tor Erik Hermansen and Mikkel S. Eriksen, with Hermansen and Eriksen also producing it. The song reaches number one on the US Hot Dance Club Songs and Hot Dance Airplay charts, and places in the top five in the United Kingdom and Australia. In Australia, it is certified platinum by the Australian Recording Industry Association.
