Alexandra Stan

Alexandra Stan is a Romanian singer and songwriter from Constanța, Romania. Born in 1989, she begins her career in 2009 after music producers Marcel Prodan and Andrei Nemirschi hear her singing in a karaoke bar and offer her a management deal through Maan Studio.

Career

Stan makes her recording debut in late 2009 with “Lollipop (Param Pam Pam)”. The single and its video attract criticism for their erotic content. Her next single, “Mr. Saxobeat”, is written by Marcel Prodan and Andrei Nemirschi, the pair who discover her at the Mamaia Music Festival. It becomes her international breakthrough, selling 1,000,000 copies in under a year and reaching number one in nine countries. It also enters the top ten in more than thirty countries, including New Zealand, the United Kingdom and Australia, and reaches the top thirty in Canada and the United States.

Albums and later singles

Her debut album, Saxobeats, appears in August 2011 and reaches the top thirty in album charts in several European countries, including Germany, Austria and Finland. The album includes the single “Get Back (ASAP)”, which finds chart success in several countries, including Romania, Finland and France. Stan later releases “Lemonade” as the lead single from a planned studio album; it charts in several European territories and is certified gold by the Federation of the Italian Music Industry. She follows it with “Cliche (Hush Hush)” and “All My People”, the latter becoming a top-twenty hit in Japan.

Unlocked and collaborations

Stan’s second studio album, Unlocked, is delayed after she is assaulted by her ex-manager and boyfriend Marcel Prodan following an argument over her earnings. The album is first released in Japan on 27 August 2014 through Victor Entertainment, where it reaches number 21 on the Japanese album chart and number one on the iTunes chart within hours. “Dance” and “Cherry Pop” serve as lead singles and gain popularity in Asia. The worldwide edition follows on 24 November 2014 and includes “Vanilla Chocolat”, which features guest vocals from Connect-R.
