Alewya

Alewya Demmisse, who performs as Alewya, is a British singer-songwriter, producer, multidisciplinary artist and model. She is born in Saudi Arabia to a Sudanese-raised Egyptian father and an Ethiopian mother. She grows up in Sudan before her family relocates to the UK as refugees when she is five, and she later grows up in West London. Her work is shaped by her African and Arab roots, and her name means “the highest” in Amharic.

She releases her debut single, “Sweating”, in 2020. The track is produced by the UK and Ghana-based duo Busy Twist and mixed and mastered by Shy FX. The accompanying video includes some of her visual art and is directed by Jack Bowden. She also appears as a guest on Little Simz’s track “Where’s My Lighter”.
