Alev Lenz

Alev Lenz is a singer-songwriter from München, Germany. Born in 1982, she is of half-German and half-Turkish background. Her music is associated with piano-based songwriting and female vocals, and she is compared to Regina Spektor, Tori Amos and Fiona Apple.

Career

Lenz begins her career in rock music, fronting her own band and listening to acts such as Foo Fighters, Kings of Leon and Muse. The band releases the album We Live in Paradise in Europe and the USA and tours for three years. She later moves away from rock, leaves the band and travels to New Zealand and New York in search of a new direction.

After returning, she co-founds My Own Record Company and releases a solo album. Her debut album, Storytelling Piano Playing Fräulein, receives radio play and draws attention to her songwriting and performance style.

EP releases and collaborations

Lenz releases the five-track Alte Schönhauser EP in the UK. It is co-produced by Brio Taliaferro, who works with Skunk Anansie, Sugababes and Sophie-Ellis Bextor, and Don Philippe of Freundeskreis.

Style

Her songs combine delicate, bittersweet melodies with rock elements and personal lyrics. Her singing and writing are described as drawing on Western musical traditions while also reflecting an inventive approach to composition.
