Alarmist

Alarmist are a group associated with instrumental, math rock, post-rock, experimental and noise rock. The name is used for two different acts: a multi-instrumental four-piece from Dublin, Ireland, and a noise rock four-piece from Portland, Oregon.

Dublin line-up

The Dublin version forms in 2008 and remains active. It consists of Neil Crowley, Elis Czerniak, Osgar Dukes and Barry O'Halpin. All four members play multiple instruments and share an equal role in shaping the group’s sound. Their music combines tightly structured melodies and fast, intricate rhythms with interlocking guitars, glitchy electronics, dual percussion and wind arrangements. They release their self-titled debut EP on the Irish label ElevenEleven in 2011.

Portland line-up

The Portland, Oregon version runs from 2003 to 2005. It is a noise rock quartet whose music draws on deconstructed art-punk and basement-party energy, with influences including Black Flag, The Birthday Party and U.S. Maple. The band develops a small but loyal local following, plays a battle of the bands in suburban Portland, completes a full-length record for Frenetic Records titled Evil Works: Get Rich or Try Dying: Evil Works., and breaks up after its only US tour. Its four members continue in other projects including Ghost to Falco, Inca Ore, the Cysts and Jackie O Motherfucker.
