Against the Current

Against the Current is an American pop rock band from Poughkeepsie, United States, active since 2011. The group’s line-up includes Chrissy Costanza on vocals, Dan Gow on guitar and vocals, Will Ferri on drums, Jeremy Rompala and Joe Simmons. Their sound spans pop punk, pop rock, alternative rock, dance-pop, electronic and pop.

Career

The band builds an early following through YouTube, where it posts cover versions of songs by artists including Owl City, Carly Rae Jepsen and Kelly Clarkson. Its first original single, “Thinking,” arrives in 2012, followed by “Closer, Faster” a year later. “Closer, Faster” also appears on the debut EP Infinity, released in 2014.

After an all-acoustic EP, the band releases its third EP, Gravity, in 2015. It then signs to Fueled by Ramen and begins issuing singles in 2016 ahead of its first full-length album, In Our Bones.

Releases and collaborations

Against the Current works with Riot Games on “Legends Never Die” for the 2017 League of Legends World Championship. It also performs at the opening and closing ceremonies of that event. In 2018, the band releases the singles “Strangers Again” and “Almost Forgot” from the album Past Lives, followed by “Personal” and “Voices.”

Later releases include “That Won’t Save Us,” “Weapon,” “again & again” featuring Guardin, and the EP fever, which is the group’s first EP since Gravity. The band also collaborates with League of Legends European Championship on “Wildfire,” featuring guest vocals from casters Vedius and Drakos.

Label status

Against the Current is associated with Fueled by Ramen, and later states that it is no longer signed to the label.
