Ad Apt

Ad Apt is a UK artist, MC and frontman whose early interest in music comes from his father’s collection of Motown and soul records. He begins performing at 16 as a hype man and MC alongside drum & bass DJs including Andy C, Shy FX, Hype, Chase & Status and Roni Size, building a reputation for energetic performance and lyrics with a reflective edge.

In 2000, Ad Apt becomes frontman and MC for the Manchester-based band thebandwithnoname. Over five years of touring the UK and Europe with the group, he plays a key part in writing and production across three albums that sell up to 33,000 copies worldwide. The experience also gives him a platform on large stages, with performances in front of audiences of up to 75,000.

Solo work and collaborations

After his time with thebandwithnoname, Ad Apt works with a range of other artists, including Bungle, LZ7, A. Skillz, BeBe Vox, Louis la Roche, Brooke, Homecut, Josh Record and BCee. He emerges as a solo artist in 2011 after summer tour dates supporting LZ7 and live appearances at Greenbelt, Outlook, Rhythm & Vines, Flevo Festival, Soul Survivor and 2000 Trees, as well as regular club dates around the UK, including The Tuesday Club in Sheffield.

Locdown and live line-up

Alongside his performing work, Ad Apt is an ambassador for Locdown, a creative arts project working with marginalised young people through music skills and creative encouragement. He also co-founds Locdown Records to help profile the project’s work and showcase new UK talent. His live set includes beatbox champion Hobbit and DJ Elements.
