Acid Bath

Acid Bath are an American metal band from Houma, Louisiana, active from 1991 to 1997. They are associated with sludge metal, doom metal, alternative metal and southern metal, and their music also draws on death metal, hardcore punk, stoner rock, thrash metal and grunge.

The band forms around vocalist and guitarist Dax Riggs, guitarist Sammy Pierre Duet, bassist Audie Pitre, drummer Jimmy Kyle and additional members Joseph Fontenot, Mike Sanchez, Tomas Viator and Kelly Pitre. Acid Bath become known for a sound that is difficult to place in a single genre, combining heavy riffs with a wider range of influences than many of their contemporaries.

Their debut album, When the Kite String Pops, appears in 1994, followed by Paegan Terrorism Tactics in 1996, which is their second and final album. The group breaks up in 1997 after the death of Audie Pitre in a traffic collision.

Although their recorded output is limited, the two albums are influential within heavy metal and help establish a model for music that is both forceful and emotionally varied. Their sound has an impact on later sludge, doom and stoner rock bands.

After Acid Bath, Dax Riggs performs as a solo artist and also sings and plays guitar in Agents of Oblivion and Deadboy & the Elephantmen. Sammy Duet also spends time in Crowbar and later joins Goatwhore.
