A1 Bassline is a UK techno and house producer who works as a solo artist. He releases music on his own imprint, Source Unknwn, and has also issued tracks on Claude VonStroke’s Dirtybird label.

Background

He is from Essex and grows up in south Croydon. As a young listener, he buys garage, grime and drum and bass records from record shops including Big Apple, Swag and Beanos. His early musical interests come from garage and drum and bass, and those styles remain audible in his work even though he releases music under a house banner.

Early releases and club culture

He has his first 12-inch release at the age of 17 and later builds a catalogue of singles while touring internationally. He is a regular at Technicality, a club night associated with metalheadz and Blue Note, and attends alongside artists such as Ben UFO, Fold and Breakage.

Recordings and labels

His releases on Dirtybird include the Buoyancy/Falsehood EP and Why Do You. He also puts out Slur b/w Slingback on Source Unknwn. His music receives support from DJs and outlets including DJ Mag, iDJ, Fact, Knowledge and Resident Advisor, as well as radio support from Radio 1, XFM and Rinse FM. Further releases are associated with Dirtybird and Pets Recordings.
